Cities and Climate Change: Metro and the Portland-metropolitan Area’s Experience

Abstract:
Examining the changing suburban and urban landscape through the
lens of climate change planning offers unique insight into the
many benefits of compact, mixed-use development.

Everyone has a place they call home. As our world is made of a
great many varied landscapes, so our homes differ in their
characteristics; humans have adapted to virtually every climate
the world has to offer. No matter the climate though, more than
ever before, we are living in cities. More than 50% of the world
population lives in cities. This number is expected to continue
growing.
