What’s new in the Updated Activist’s Toolkit?

Rex

Writing a book is a lot of work and when a friend said I should update my book, The Activist’s Toolkit, I was a bit astounded. I had just published it in 2015. Well, she said, a lot has happened since then! Including a certain presidential election. Prodded by her question, I went back and read through my book, and realized that other things had changed as well. I realized that we all keep learning, from every new action, from every new acquaintance.

In 2016 I ran a campaign to establish the first statewide outdoor education program in the country (my excuse for not paying more attention to national politics). I learned tons from putting together this campaign, Outdoor School for All, and included the lessons learned in the Updated version, including new ways to create compelling and motivating messaging, insights from values based polling and more. Also, the appendix includes a Case Study on how to run a citizen-led campaign on a state level.

Get a peek here in an interview with Dennise Kowalczyk of KBOO community radio.

She even calls me out on my unconscious gender bias! Love learning from new perspectives!
